Benefits over Barcodes
RFID technological solutions are much superior is comparism to Barcodes and their advantages over barcodes are as follows:
- RFID tags which stores the information of each object item is a rewriteable tag. The data on this tag can be changed as many times as we want.
- To read the data on the tags there is no need for direct line of sight vision with the tag as in case of barcodes. The wavelengths enables reading the tags within a given radii of the interrogator reading antena.
- This wavelength enabled reading of tags gives the tags a large range depending on the wavelength of the frequency. The various frequencies are low frequency(MH), high frequency(HM), ultra high frequency(HM) and microwave frequency. Depending on the frequency of the wavelength the tags emit frequency for a certain radii.
- RFID tags can store a large amount of data compared to the barcodes.
- An RFID reader or interrogator can read multiple tags at one time. The speed of reading data on tags is also very fast. A bar-coded tag can be read only one at a time unlike RFID tags.
- Unlike barcodes the RFID tags are much more durable and have long life. The tags for garment industry and for container industry are different. Depending on the conditions of the inventory the tags are utilized. Barcodes are fragile and are not available in suit such variety of needs.
- RFID tags can be used for other purposes besides being data storage devices. These purposes can be temperature, humidity sensor etc. Also, RFID tags have their own battery unlike barcodes.
- RFID tags are far more accurate when it comes to reading data as compared to barcodes. They are considered almost 99% accurate as compared to 90% accuracy in case of barcodes.
- The RFID technology supports an item level tagging. Barcodes cannot do this.
- RFID tags are reliable far more secure from theft and hackers compared to barcodes.
- RFID tags are very durable and not prone to wear and tear like barcodes.
